A Q&A with Kelly-Ann, Animation Intern

My name is Kelly-Ann and I am an art student hailing from the glorious and almighty frozen tundra known as Canada. I did an internship in Ireland this spring with an animation distribution company called Monster Entertainment.

Why did you decided to intern in Ireland?

I decided to intern in Ireland because I’d always wanted to travel there. I’d heard so many amazing things from friends who have done Eurotrips and I couldn’t wait to come and see it for myself!

What do you do at your internship? Describe a typical day as an intern at Monster Entertainment.

A typical day at Monster… I usually started with a cup of tea before working away at my to-do list. My co-worker Ben and I worked as a team to make deliveries, updated the website and social media sites, video editing and digital file management. There was constantly something to do and each day was different. Ultimately, my internship was insightful. I didn’t have prior knowledge about how the animation industry operates before this experience. I learned a lot and made some great friends in the process.

Where will you go from here? What are you career goals?

I have no idea where I’m headed. I know that I have this passion to create artistic content, so no matter where I am, I’ll be making things. Paintings, animations, illustrations, perhaps even writing short stories or drawing graphic novels. I think I’ve caught the travel bug so I might return to Ireland one day!

What was your experience of Ireland? Where did you get to travel?

I absolutely love Ireland, the people, the culture, and the beautiful landscape. I miss my morning bike rides along the canal. I regret not traveling more, but I did get a chance to visit Portugal which was amazing. As for Ireland, I ventured to Howth, Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher, Newgrange, the Hill of Tara, and parts of Northern Ireland (on the Game of Thrones tour). In Dublin, I enjoyed going to the Bernard Shaw. Man, those pizzas were amazing…

What advice would you give someone who is about to embark on an experience abroad?

Go places and do fun things! Meet as many people as you can, make memories, and try new food! Basically, just have the craic!
